Why isn't my website getting any enquiries?
Most business owners get a website built, tick it off the list and wait for the phone to ring. I did exactly the same thing... It looked fine. It just didn't do much.
Why isn't my website getting enquiries?
In most cases, a small business website isn't getting enquiries for one of six reasons. It's too slow on a phone, so people leave before it loads. A visitor can't tell what you do within a few seconds. There's no clear next step, like a call button or a booking link. Nothing on the page proves you're real and trusted. Google can't properly find or understand the site. Or the enquiries are actually coming in, but the calls go unanswered while you're busy. Usually it's two or three of these at once. The good news is you don't need a full rebuild to work out which ones. You can check most of them yourself in about ten minutes, on your own phone.
Is your website too slow on a phone?
Most of your visitors are on their phone. If your page takes more than a few seconds to show up, they're gone. They won't wait, they'll just hit back and tap the next result.
When I rebuilt my own site, I cut the mobile page weight by 84%. The headline now loads in about a second. Same look. Just faster.
Quick test: open your site on your phone, on mobile data, not wifi. Count how long it takes before you can actually read something.
Can someone tell what you do in five seconds?
"Welcome to our website" tells a visitor nothing. Neither does a clever slogan.
Say what you do, who it's for, and where. "Mobile dog grooming on the Gold Coast" beats "Passion meets perfection" every single time.
Is it obvious what to do next?
Phone number hidden in the footer. Contact form buried on a separate page. Three different buttons all saying different things...
Pick one action. Call, book, or get a quote. Make it big and make it impossible to miss.
Does your website prove you're legit?
Earlier this year I looked over a website where every impact counter on the homepage read zero. Zero projects. Zero people helped. On the page asking people to donate! Nobody had noticed.
People are deciding whether to trust you in seconds. Real reviews, real photos of your work, and up-to-date details do that job. Stock photos of smiling strangers don't.
Can Google actually find your website?
Plenty of websites have never properly been introduced to Google. Google Search Console is free, and it shows you whether Google can see your pages at all.
When I moved my own site over, Google was still trying to visit around 100 old pages that didn't exist anymore. If I hadn't checked, I'd never have known.
Are you missing the calls your website does get?
Sometimes the website is doing its job fine. The phone rings... but you're on the tools, or with a client, or it's 8pm. It goes to voicemail. And most people won't leave a message, they'll just call the next business on Google.
That's exactly why I built Maya, an AI receptionist that answers every call and books the job while you're busy.
What should you fix first?
Start with the free stuff. Do the phone test, the five-second test, and make sure there's one clear button. That's ten minutes of your time.
If it's still quiet after that and you want a second set of eyes, book a call and I'll go through it with you.
